DESCRIPTION:
French, S. Marti, for Boxell, Brighton (a retailer), time and strike, mantel clock with barometer to the left and perpetual calendar with moon phase to the right, movements mounted in a scrolling brass frame, the whole mounted to a black marble base with incised decorations, C,1880.
CONDITION:
this clock started life as a heavy marble 3 display calendar clock. Perhaps after damage, a good workman made covers for the rear of the barometer and spun a cover for the calendar, and also made a modern Plexiglas cylinder to protect the time movement from dust. This person mounted the assembly to two pieces of flat brass, covering the original joints of the case. A presentation plaque on the marble plinth is now missing (two filled holes). Still this is an attractive display and the calendar and barometer dials are excellent.
